Welcome to the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page.

Here you will find all the the common FAQ's and answers. If you have a question that hasn't been covered here, please drop us a line and we will endevour to help with your query.

Q: What training syllabus will I be following?

A: Our paragliding training syllabus is a combination of the guide lines set down by the BHPA and our own input based on many years of instructing experience. The writing of the syllabus has been ongoing in pursuit of the perfect training course so is regularly reviewed and updated. A lot of work has gone into this process and is a reflection on the standards of our students.

Q: If I have a bad day and do little during that days training, will this still count as a whole day?

A: It doesn't actually matter. The course fees are fixed so it make no difference to us how long it takes you, within reason of course!

Q: Will I be safe?

A: Paragliding is a form of aviation, with all of the inherent and potential dangers involved. No form of aviation is without risk - injuries and death can and do occur in paragliding. The risks can be kept to a very acceptable level by following some simple rules. If you fly within your abilities, don't fly in conditions not suitable for paragliding and keep a healthy respect for the sport, you can enjoy an incident free flying career for many years.

Paraventure?s safety record is unsurpassed by any other paragliding school in this country and we intend to keep it that way. Paraventure was created to turn ordinary people into new pilots of the highest standard with the minimum amount of risk to that individual during their training as practically possible. You fly only when we say that it is safe to do so, there will never be any compromise.

Q: What time of day will we finish training?

A: This will depend completely on the conditions on the day. We run Paraventure in the most flexible way possible. For example, the middle of a hot summer?s day is rarely any use to us due to the thermal conditions and gusty winds. These conditions make a paraglider difficult to control for a beginner so are therefore unsafe (remember our no compromise promise?). But this isn't always the case, it always depends on the day. This is why we have no fixed start or finishing times. We do however sometimes fly late into the evening, finishing sometime around 8.00pm . We have had students still in the air well after 8.00pm in the longer months. Students can leave earlier if they need to, most choose to stay. Charging the customer by the hour is the ONLY way we can be this flexible.

Q: I would like to fly mid week but if I book time off work and the weather is bad on the day I lose time won?t I?

A: Here?s another big advantage of our training flexibility. Simply go to work, ring us at 09.00am to determine weather conditions for the day and if all is well clock out. If the weather is bad, stay in work and earn some more money to help you buy a new glider! Even if you live as far away as London , this system will work for you. It is possible to drive or travel by train a long way in a few hours.

Q: Once I have qualified to Club Pilot will I then be left out on my own?

A: Absolutely not. The Southeast Wale?s Hang gliding and Paragliding Club, which controls all the flying in this area, operate a Club Coach Scheme (as mentioned in the main info). There are always experienced pilots around on the hill with quite a few being Club Coaches that can advise you on the flying site, rules and conditions. As we tend to use the same sites for training as the qualified pilots, we will also usually be around.

Q: Can I bring my friends to watch me on my course?

A: We have no problem with this as we often get new students this way. Priority for transport in any of our vehicles will always be given to our students though. Please note: No dogs are allowed on any of our flying sites by order of the farmers and landowners via the S.E.W.H.G.P.G.Club.

Q: Can I get food for the day from Paraventure or do I need to bring it with me?

A: Please make sure that you have all other provisions before we meet as we like to get away to the flying as quickly as possible. Please make sure that you have plenty of fuel in your car, we may be traveling to a further than normal site occasionally.

Q: Once I am qualified and have some experience I would like to go on one of your flying holidays. Where do you go to?

A: You don't need to be experienced to come away with us; that depends on the course. We offer trips for complete beginners up to the already qualified. The trips that we do are usually 7 or 10 days long each (most people have difficulty having more time off from work than this) and are run throughout the year. So far our other trips have been to California, the French Alps, Greece and Spain. For the future we are looking at Turkey and Nepal but Spain is always at the top of our list (the place was created by God just for paragliding apparently..). Details on the news section as we have them.

Q: What is the BHPA?

A: The British Hang gliding and Paragliding Association are the governing body of our sport. Amongst other things they are responsible for over seeing the activities of the schools. They help to train, examine, qualify and licenses instructors. They also inspect the schools with little notice to check that the standards are being kept to and to maintain this standard that the BHPA is world renowned for. Paragliding in the UK is a professional sport run by professionals.
